The Carrock Tiny Home The Carrock, a secluded retreat near 81/77

$71-218/night
1 Bedroom • 1 Bath • Sleeps 1-3
Allows pets Mountain Forest (more...)

Somewhere off a winding mountain road, tucked into old-growth forest where the creek runs and the wildlife outnumbers the neighbors, sits a little wooden hideaway that feels like it grew there rather than was built.

Welcome to The Carrock, a cozy tiny house on Beorn's Bower homestead, just 15 minutes off the I-77/I-81 merge in Max Meadows, VA. There's no wifi here, only woodsmoke, birdsong, and the kind of quiet that makes you want to put the kettle on and stay a while.

Inside you'll find:
- Small kitchen with propane stovetop and convection oven
- Shower and composting toilet (simple step-by-step instructions provided)
- Window AC
- On-demand hot water heater
- Small TV with HDMI (bring your own streaming device)

Just outside:
- A deck overlooking the creek
- Firepit (gather fallen sticks; live trees and branches are protected)
- Birdwatching binoculars provided

Nearby: the Appalachian Trail, New River Trail, Foster Falls, Dismal Falls, and Grayson Highlands are all within reach, along with canoeing, hunting/fishing access, local breweries, and a small-town dinner theatre.

Pets: Four-legged friends are always welcome at Beorn's Bower. Dogs must stay leashed and never left to wander the forest alone, and a small pet fee applies to any reservation traveling with pets, just let us know before you arrive so we can roll out the welcome mat. Cats are welcome in the catio only, not inside.

Summer Heat Advisory: Come the height of summer, the mountain can run warm, and Heat Advisories may be issued for the area. If you're traveling with little ones, older adults, or anyone with heat-sensitive health needs, it's worth checking the forecast before you set out.

Embrace Nature: This is wild, old-growth country, so despite our best housekeeping, you may cross paths with the odd insect or curious critter during your stay. Consider it part of the welcome.

Cancellation Policy: One hundred percent (100.00%) of the total booking charges (less $20.00 cancellation fee) will be refunded if the cancellation is made more than 5 days prior to the arrival date of the reservation. For cancellations made within 5 days prior to the arrival date, no refund will be issued.

Miriam and Tim fell in love with the raw land that became Beorn's Bower, both lifelong lovers of the woods and its creatures. Miriam is a visual artist and published author who previously ran a successful Airbnb in the Shenandoah Valley as a Superhost; she also runs a local tea house hosting tea parties and events. Tim is a photographer, videographer, and writer, currently building a timber-frame log home further up the mountain that will become their permanent residence. Their dog and cat, Huan and Courier Font, are part of the homestead too.
