About the Host

Painted Prairie Vineyard began with a leap of faith in 2014, when Andy and Krista Kopperud fell in love with a hidden gem in Southwest Minnesota—a rustic oasis complete with rolling prairies, glistening water, and a working vineyard. Born and raised in the area, they saw not just a home, but a place to cultivate community, craft local wine, and share the beauty of the prairie.

The vineyard itself has deep roots, first planted in 2006 by the original owners, with the red barn transformed into a cozy tasting room shortly after. Since taking over, the Kopperuds have honored that vision while adding their own, expanding into a new Prairie Pavilion and revitalizing the iconic barn.

Today, Painted Prairie offers 17 unique wine blends and 11 local craft beers and ciders—all sourced as locally as possible. When you visit, you’ll likely meet Andy, Krista, their three spirited daughters—Annika, Elysa, and Britta—and their friendly vineyard dog, Goldie.

At Painted Prairie, you’re not just tasting wine. You’re tasting the heart of the prairie.
